Bellanica and Veliki Buk waterfall

Mount Bellanica is one of the highest mountains in eastern Serbia (1339 meters) and is one of the most difficult to climb. It is located between the Resava river in the south and the Zagubička basin in the north, town of Despotovac in the west and village of Zlot in the east. The area of ​​Kucaj, Bellanica and Malinik occupies almost 2500 square kilometers of completely uninhabited territory - which is the largest area of ​​absolute wilderness in Serbia. It got its name from its white, rocky limestone peaks.

Before climbing Bellanica, a visit to the Krupajsko spring, whose turquoise blue water has a water temperature of 9 to 11 °C, is mandatory. The spring is at the bottom of an amphitheatrical shape with steep, sometimes vertical sides, some branches of which go up to 70 meters deep. Its hydrological regime and its yield have not been sufficiently investigated. It is under state protection as a natural monument of national importance. The Manasija Monastery, few kilometars away from route to Bellanica, also known as Resava is a Serbian Orthodox monastery near Despotovac, Serbia founded by Despot Stefan Lazarevic between 1406 and 1418 AD.

The "conquest" of Bellanica begins at the mountain lodge "Suvaja" (located a few kilometers from the village of Strmosten at 376 meters above sea level) and continues with a gentle ascent through the forest. During the ascent - meadows, slopes and forests alternate. The diversity of this trail is its main feature. About halfway to the top, somewhere on the fourth kilometer of the trail, there is a lookout point on the Resava river canyon.

• The most difficult part of the ascent begins about three kilometers before the summit. The path is steep and the nature is wild and beautiful. The trail becomes significantly gentler towards the end of the climb.

• From Beljanica you can enjoy the view on all four sides of the world.

• After its conquest - the road takes us about 8 kilometers downward towards the area called Lisina, whose main attraction is the Veliki Buk waterfall. Powerful, unique and 25 meters high, it is located in a fairytale environment.

IMPORTANT:

• The total length of the track is about 18 kilometers. The trail is of medium difficulty and the total vertical ascent is about 1000 meters.

• Descending from Beljanica, due to the steep slope and slippery terrain, can be dangerous, and for this reason, increased attention is recommended.

Price for hiring a tourist guide is 45,00 EUR per person (the minimum number of hikers to hire a guide is four).
